Old Mill in Papanino, 1983
Papanino is one of Dilijan’s old neighborhoods, located in the area adjoining present-day Kalinin Street. In the past, old mills operated there and formed an integral part of the city’s distinctive character. The old mill in Papanino held particular significance for Sharambeyan. Although Dilijan’s historic buildings often attracted his attention, he associated the preservation of this mill with the creation of a new cultural space as well.
Sharambeyan intended to restore the mill and establish a bread museum and shop nearby. It was envisioned not only as a place that would tell the story of traditional bread-making, but also as a space conveying the atmosphere of local culture and everyday life. Work on the project began in the mid-1980s, but remained unfinished after Sharambeyan’s death
